The Ambassador of Romanian to the UK, Dr Ion Jinga, was awarded Freeman of the City of London

On 13 June, the Ambassador of Romanian to the Court of St James’s, Dr Ion Jinga, was awarded Freeman of the City of London, the Romanian Embassy informs. The event took place in the Chamberlain’s Court Room at the Guildhall, the historical administrative headquarters of London’s financial district.

The ambassador of Romania was nominated by Dr John Smail, Alderman and Master of the Guild of Freemen of the City of London, and by Alderman Anne Holden, Past Master of the Guild. He joins a prestigious list of Freemen which includes, among others, royals, political and religious personalities, famous artists, writers, musicians, outstanding business people and a few foreign ambassadors.

Receiving the certificate, Dr Jinga said: “It is a huge privilege to serve as Ambassador of Romania to the Court of St James’s. I see this Freedom as a symbol of the excellent bilateral relations between Romania and Great Britain under the aegis of our Strategic Partnership, and as recognition of the loyal commitment I made six years ago to ever closer ties between our two countries. “

The award ceremony was conducted by Mr Paul Double, Remembrancer of the City of London.
